the last time my dad came to visit, he had just gotten a new gps in his car. he could just punch in his destination and it would speak to him when he needed to turn or go straight or stop. it told him just how to get where he was going. he got his direction for his trip from his gps.
where do we get our direction for our life? where do christians get their map for faithfulness? how should life be lived as a christian? where does someone find direction for living a faithful life?
all of these questions find their answer in a simple little word: scripture
as Jesus followers, scripture is our compass. it's our source of direction. scripture is our spiritual gps.
read this carefully: the Bible isn't important just because it's "the Bible." the Bible is important because it's God's words speaking to us.
scripture is essential to living a life of faith in God. paul writes to the colossians, "let the word of God dwell in you richly..." (col3:16) there's nothing like the written word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. every part of scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another, showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way. through God's word to us in the Bible we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.
for some of you, you don't like to read. for some of you, you think the Bible is confusing. spend time this morning asking God to speak to you. pray that God would create a hunger in your life for His word. pray that God would make the message of the Bible understandable to you. pray that God would use Scripture to give you His guidance for your life.
